Many people today have the misconception that Long Term Care and Long Term Care insurance only include nursing home coverage. In fact, nearly 80% of the benefits paid under Long Term Care insurance policies are for care outside of nursing homes. Few patients really want to go to a nursing home, though there are some nice new assisted-living communities.

The LTCI policies offered today are flexibly designed to assist people in getting care in the setting of their choice and the services that are most appropriate for their particular situation. Coverage is available to people ages 18 to 99 with daily benefits ranging from $40 to $300. The insurance pays benefits when the insured, due to sickness or injury, is unable to perform 2 out of 6 activities of daily living (bathing, continence, dressing, eating, toileting or transferring) or suffers a cognitive impairment requiring substantial assistance.
